Pat Swartos, Democrat, is announcing her intention to run for re-election to the Office of County Clerk.  Pat has been employed in this office since January 1972, elected in November of 1984 to fill an unexpired term, and sworn into office the day following certification of the election.   She ran again, unopposed in 1986, 1990,1994, 1998, 2002, 2006. This will be her eighth election.  

The clerk is the administrative and financial office of the Superior Court of the county. The county clerk must keep all court records, which include felony criminal, civil law suits, domestic violence, dissolution (divorce), child custody, paternity, probate, juvenile offender and dependency, truancy and judgments in all these cases.  The County Clerk processes passports handles jury management.  

New operations and technology have been an important part of the improvements implemented since Pat began in the office.  Computer technology is used in most all the daily operations.  In June of 2002, a new Court Imaging system was installed, allowing all filed documents to be scanned and interfaced with the case indexing and docketing system.  The images are readily available for viewing and this process alleviates the storage problem of the physical files, plus the process of microfilming has been eliminated.

Pat has been President of the Washington State Association of County Clerks, and held all the board positions.  She has received many awards, one of which was the ‘Clerk of the Year’ in 1994 by the Clerk’s Association. She was the Education Chair for over a total of 6 years. She is a member of many working committees within the organization, in which the goals are to improve and update the workplace with modern technology.  She has been a working member of many State Court committees and workgroups to design and implement technology for the courts.

She has been active in the Democrat Party for over 35 years:  She was President of the Democrat Women’s Club for more than a total of 13 years; a member of the Central Committee; past Precinct Chairperson for many years; past secretary of Central Committee, 3rd Congressional District and Region 7 Democrat Women.
